There are several techniques in 3D animation that are used to bring the story and character's to life. Before the process of animating can begin, the 3D objects need skeletons that will allow them character to move. This stage is called 'rigging and skinning', which drives the movement and brings the it to life.
The next stage is the animation process of taking the 3D model and getting it to move, which can be done by several ways, for example the animator can manipulate the object's movement frame by frame. |

To create the realism of character's look, the lighting of scenes is essential. Lighting combines with the type of textures and camera angles used. It can bring structure to the facial expressions and can help create meaning in different scenes. For example, dim lighting in sad scenes and bright lighting in happier scenes. The lighting is where a scene has the potential to come to life.

The film begins purposely at the beginning of Riley's life, just after she is born. It also becomes the beginning of her first emotion, which is Joy, and also her first memory. The opening is narrated by Joy as she explains how the other emotions joined her and their role with looking after Riley.
The main story really begins when the disruption stage commences when Riley, who is 11 year old, moves to San Francisco. Things become difficult as their new place appears less than thrilling, as well as missing her friends back home but Joy tries to keep things positive. Joy begins to see Riley's other Emotions (Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust) suddenly become more prominent. After Sadness turns a joyful memory sad, Joy keeps Sadness away from the control panel, and excludes her without giving her a job which is the first show of antagonism. |
I find it very difficult to pinpoint one main narrative theme in Inside Out but I think the one that possibly stands out and has most relevance to the characters is personal growth, which is shown through human experience and acceptance.
This links to the character Joy as at the beginning of the film, she has a one set mind on how she thinks things should be run and a lack of understanding over the emotion Sadness. Although through her journey, she has a personal growth is learning that all emotions are needed equally and accepts Sadness for her role in Riley's mind. The character Riley goes through personal growth, as she first struggles to adjust to her new home with her emotions out of control but learns how to confront her parents on how much she misses her friends, hockey team and old home. At the end of the film, when all her emotions are working together equally, Riley has found her place in San Francisco and has become a talented player for the ice hockey team, as well as making new friends. |
The advert begins with Wallace in the shower to which he quickly becomes distressed when the water suddenly turns cold. Wallace presses the 'hot' button numerous times but nothing changes. Meanwhile, Gromit is in the boiler room and putting in coal in to fire. Gromit is then seen holding the phone when Wallace comes down stairs with only his shower hat on and to Wallace and Gromit's surprise, Bob from the Npower team comes through the door and a lays down a carpet that says 'Npower'. This shows that Bob arrived in seconds after Gromit called Npower. Bob continues to walk through the house and in no time has supplied a new, working boiler for them. Wallace, now very pleased, turns to Gromit and says 'That'll save us some pennies, lad,'. As Bob zooms off in his Npower boiler van down the road to his next customer in need. Wallace is finally able to have a warm bath, while Gromit who is covered in coal waits outside for his turn.
