P6: CARRY OUT POST PRODUCTION EDITS TO THE SOUND ELEMENTS
Screen Recording Of Editing Audio In Post Production
Editing Part One

After importing a sound effect of a scream, I positioned the audio further down the timeline where there was no other sound elements, meaning I could listen to the audio clip separately. I cut the audio clip down by getting rid of extra background noise. With Frankenstein being known for its horror elements, I didn't want the scream to end abruptly but instead to fade out. The scream comes from the character Elizabeth, who appears in Victor's nightmare so by fading out, it is like Elizabeth is disappearing from his dream. To do this, I selected the end part of the scream and went on to effects before selecting 'fade out'.
0:50 - 3:16
The next sound effect I looked at was the horse hooves, where there was spaces between each sound. I wanted the horse hooves to smooth and like it is walking a steady pace, so I used the selection tool and then deleted the gaps that weren't needed. Once the gaps were removed, I selected the sound clip and clicked 'effect' and then 'amplify', to raise the volume of the sound effect as it was too quiet. I amplified the sound to the recommended amount of 3.2.
3:16 - 5:20
The next sound effect I added was my voice for a monster sound. To represent the scariness of Frankenstein, I wanted a heavy growl which was hard to create or find some foley objects that produce that sound. In the end, I breathed into a mic and uploaded the sound file to audacity. I selected the sound and decreased the pitch level, so my voice sounded lower. I kept adjusting the pitch under it sounded less like my voice and more a convention of a monster. Once this was achieved, I moved the clip back to the other recordings and cut a space between the dialogue so the monster growl will almost interrupt the voice over and add to suspense.
Editing Part Two
Timecode
0:00 to 1:30
At this stage, I am arranging all the edited sound effects to be positioned in line with the voiceover and music.
1:30 to 2:32
I have edited the song by cutting up the parts I want and deleting the parts of the song I don't like. When one part of the music begins, it is abrupt and does not flow well with their other sound effects and dialogue. I selected the first part of the music section, when to effect and clicked fade it. This allowed the music to slowly get louder and have a gradual entrance. I then layer this with another sound element and then select a section of the dialogue to lower the volume slightly, as it was overpowering the music.
